Screenwriter Jamie Flanagan (“Midnight Mass,” “The Fall of the House of Usher”) sibling to Mike Flanagan — has sold their first two novels to Saga Press, Simon & Schuster’s genre imprint, Deadline reports.

Their first book, tentatively titled Deserters, follows two priests in post-World War II Italy as they traverse the countryside in search of lost souls, only to find their mission descend into horror.

The second as-yet-untitled book is about a young woman uncontrollably flitting through time. It’s based on Flanagan’s short story Moira, published in last year’s horror anthology Shadows in the Stacks.

The deal was handled by Joe Monti, Vice President and Editorial Director at Saga Press via Lane Heymont at the Tobias Literary Agency.

“I fell in love with Flanagan’s prose, and perhaps no surprise, the immediate connection I felt with their characters”, said Monti. “I’m excited to share what they’re crafting with readers and having them join the stable of award-winning writers like Stephen Graham Jones and Tananarive Due on my list.”

Flanagan is currently working on Mike Flanagan’s series adaptation of Stephen King’s “Carrie” for Amazon MGM Studios.
