‘HIM’ Official Trailer Breakdown – 10 Creepy Shots That Have Our Attention
The official trailer for Justin Tipping’s sports-themed horror movie HIM was unleashed this morning, previewing the latest nightmare from Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions.
HIM will release in theaters on September 19, and it’s being described as “a chilling journey into the inner sanctum of fame, idolatry and the pursuit of excellence at any cost.”
Tyriq Withers stars as Cameron Cade, a rising-star quarterback who has devoted his life, and identity, to football. On the eve of professional football’s annual scouting Combine, Cam is attacked by an unhinged fan and suffers a potentially career-ending brain trauma.
When all seems lost, Cam receives a lifeline when his hero, Isaiah White (Marlon Wayans), a legendary eight-time Championship quarterback and cultural megastar, offers to train Cam at Isaiah’s isolated compound that he shares with his celebrity influencer wife, Elsie (Julia Fox).
As Cam’s training accelerates, Isaiah’s charisma curdles into something darker, sending his protégé down a disorienting rabbit hole that may cost him more than he ever bargained for.
The official trailer for HIM begins innocently enough, introducing Cameron Cade and his fateful meeting with Isaiah White. “I want to be the GOAT,” Cade tells an interviewer, which would explain why this film’s original title was GOAT. That title, however, was claimed by next year’s animated basketball movie Goat, which will be a decidedly less sinister affair.
Because while the first minute of the new HIM trailer may lead you to believe that this is an inspirational sports movie, well, the remainder of the trailer makes it pretty clear that this is a horror movie that should feel right at home in the Monkeypaw Productions oeuvre.
“This ain’t a game,” Isaiah White tells Cameron Cade at the exact moment the trailer takes a sinister turn. For the next minute, 34 seconds, we’ve got a horror movie trailer on our hands.

What does it take to be the greatest of all time? Well, it looks like it requires literal sacrifice and cult-like devotion to the cause in the world of HIM, which looks to carry themes of “be careful what you wish for,” “never meet your heroes,” and “greatness comes at a cost.”
Football is inherently a violent sport, a sport where violence is indeed rewarded, but the nightmare Cameron Cade is about to enter will go far beyond anything we usually see on the gridiron. If he wants to become the GOAT, well, he’s going to have to get his hands BLOODY…
