‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ Names Zombie Planet After ‘Dawn of the Dead’ Star Ken Foree

The latest episode of “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” boldly goes where no “Star Trek” has gone before.
Season 3’s third episode sends the crew of the starship Enterprise to a zombie-infested planet known as Kenfori, named after Dawn of the Dead star Ken Foree.
“It’s an honor and a privilege to have a planet named after me in ‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds,'” Foree wrote on Twitter.
Director Dan Liu and writers Onitra Johnson and Bill Wolkoff also included a few other references to George A. Romero‘s seminal zombie films — including a Klingon whose dying words, “Choke on me,” echo Rhodes’ unforgettable “Choke on ’em!” from Day of the Dead.
The title of the episode, “Shuttle to Kenfori,” may also be a nod to Train to Busan, while the plant-like zombies evoke “The Last of Us.”
“Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” is streaming on Paramount+.
