“It Sucks” – Franchise Producer Shares Honest Thoughts on ‘The Final Destination’

The fourth installment of the Final Destination franchise was confusingly titled The Final Destination, but it of course ended up being anything but. Released into theaters in 2009, it’s considered by most fans to be the franchise’s worst installment, but it’s actually the highest grossing installment in the series – paving the way for Final Destination 5 two years later.

How does franchise producer Craig Perry feel about The Final Destination, sixteen years removed from its release? Being brutally honest with writer Clark Collis for his upcoming book Screaming and Conjuring: The Resurrection and Unstoppable Rise of the Modern Horror Movie, Perry admits that the lackluster fourth installment “sucks.”

Entertainment Weekly shared the excerpt from the book, which releases September 2.

Craig Perry tells Collis in the book, “I don’t think the fourth one is good at all, actually it sucks. But it was successful enough to give us a chance to redeem ourselves with 5.”

Perry admits that he assumed The Final Destination would be the franchise’s final installment, but that was before it opened to $27.4 million at the box office. It was the franchise’s highest opening for 14 years, only to be dethroned this year by Final Destination Bloodlines.

The Final Destination ended up making a franchise record $186 million at the worldwide box office, a number that Final Destination Bloodlines is looking to beat in the coming weeks.
