Creeper Pays Homage to Lucio Fulci in ‘Death Swallowed by Death’ Short Film [Exclusive]
Evil is consumed by its own destruction in British rock band Creeper‘s short film Death Swallowed by Death, debuting exclusively below.
Directed by Harry Steel, the video embraces practical special effects — including an homage to the infamous ocular trauma from Lucio Fulci‘s Zombie.
Death Swallowed by Death presages the band’s fourth album, Sanguivore II: Mistress of Death, which will be unleashed this Friday, October 31, via Spinefarm Records.
Expanding on the narrative explored in Creeper’s acclaimed 2023 album Sanguivore, Sanguivore II follows a British rock band immersed in the decadence of an American tour at the height of the 1980s Satanic Panic.
Each stop leaves fresh decay in the shape of a mysterious trail of deceased fans. The world is quick to lay blame at the bloodied hands of the band, but there’s more to this story than is first apparent… Enter the Mistress of Death, a ruthless hunter on their trail with all axe and no mercy.
Recommended for fans of AFI and My Chemical Romance, Creeper was formed in Southampton in 2014. The group consists of vocalist Will Gould, guitarists Ian Miles and Lawrie Pattison, bassist Sean Scott, drummer Jake Fogarty, and keyboardist/vocalist Hannah Greenwood.
“This film marks the long-awaited climax of the Sanguivore II: Mistress of Death album campaign,” says Gould. “It follows the album’s protagonist, a vampire huntress, as she finally tracks down the vampire rock band she’s been stalking and catches them in their sleep. Directed by Harry Steel, it features the most graphic and gory imagery we’ve ever created.”
“As someone who’s always had a penchant for practical gore and specifically head trauma in horror cinema, I was so excited for a chance to make something like this,” adds Steel. “We took huge influence from that scene in Lucio Fulci’s ‘video nasty’ classic Zombie Flesh Eaters. We really wanted to draw out the tension of the impact for as long as possible and not hold back when the gore strikes, which is only really possible or effective when using practical effects.”
