Mundfish was busy at Summer Game Fest, revealing not one but two games based on its 2023 dystopian FPS Atomic Heart. The first is a sequel in Atomic Heart II, coming to PC via Steam, PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series. The second is The Cube, an MMO RPG shooter set in the “Atomic Universe”, which is also coming to PC via Steam, PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series.

Atomic Heart II picks up from the first game, and relates new events unfolding in the retrofuturistic universe of an alternate history. This time, the action takes place on a global scale. Characters from the original game return, alongside a new cast to “reveal a different side of the game world.”

“Ever since the launch of the original Atomic Heart, we’ve been floored by the unwavering support and enthusiasm of our playerbase. When we set out to create the Atomic Universe, we never imagined that the community would respond with such amazing passion,” shared Robert Bagratuni, Founder and CEO of Mundfish, and Game Director of Atomic Heart II. “It’s been hard sitting on this announcement for so long, but today, at Summer Game Fest, we’re incredibly happy to finally and officially announce that Atomic Heart II is coming, and it’s bigger and bolder than the original.”

Much like its predecessor, Atomic Heart II is set in an alternate-history retrofuturistic universe. In this utopian world of science and technology, humans lived in harmony with their loyal and fervent robots. Unfortunately, what was meant to bring about an era of peace and prosperity at the hands of advanced robotics and AI, has now spiralled into chaos. Atomic Heart II picks up with a world on the brink of collapse. It’s up to the player to prevent it—however, beware, as the truth runs deeper than anyone may realize.

Meanwhile, The Cube takes place several years after the events of Atomic Heart, where the world stands on the brink of a new threat. The eponymous mysterious giant levitating structure has become the epicenter of increasingly dangerous phenomena, and in order to save humanity, players must plunge deep into its secrets—and survive. On the surface, it’s a geometrically perfect object, and in truth it’s an anomalous, shifting place swarming with vicious enemies. But most terrifying of all is the equation hidden at the Cube’s core. Deciphering the equation can save humanity; failing to do so means extinction.
