A legendary staple on the horror scene, FANGORIA is alive and well here in 2025, which is pretty remarkable when you consider the magazine launched way back in 1979. As the brand charts a course into the future, the team has announced First in Fright: The FANGORIA Compendium, the ultimate retrospective look back at the history of all things FANGORIA.

45+ years of horror will be brought together in one definitive collection with this limited edition hardcover book, which will be paired with a digital archive project that aims to preserve nearly five decades of horror history. First in Fright: The FANGORIA Compendium is now funding through Kickstarter, with $17,000 of the $25,000 goal already raised as of this morning.

Featuring 300+ pages of full-color imagery, essays, and deep-cut retrospectives, First in Fright unites decades of FANGORIA editors with genre legends including John Carpenter, Clive Barker, Barbara Crampton, Bryan Fuller, Don Mancini, Mike Flanagan, Tom Savini and more.

For the first time ever, fans will also gain access to The FANGORIA Digital Archive, a fully searchable, interactive restoration of the magazine’s complete original run, with more than 25,000 pages of remastered content available in both original and text-readable formats.

Backers can receive exclusive rewards including…

  • Custom first editions and signed copies of the First in Fright hardcover
  • Foil slipcases, collectors’ merch, and an original vinyl album
  • A remastered reprint of FANGORIA Issue #1
  • A poster featuring the top 100 covers from Fango’s 45-year history
  • Access to the complete Digital Archive
  • Your name in the book and a VIP invite to the exclusive book launch party
