Composer Akira Yamaoka Announced as Contributor to ‘Total Chaos’ Soundtrack [Video]

Apogee Entertainment and developer Trigger Happy Interactive are bringing the big guns for Total Chaos, announcing that legendary composer and sound designer Akira Yamaoka of Silent Hill series fame has contributed his talents to the upcoming psychological survival horror title. Yamaoka has composed a new original theme and track for Total Chaos called “Catharsis,” which you can check out below.
Yamaoka is joined by original Total Chaos mod composers Jason Dagenet and William Braddell, along with Apogee’s music team: Chipper Hammond, Tim Stoney, and Mathieu Hallouin. The group has created an ambient and disturbing soundscape that “blurs the line between music and madness.”
“Many of us at Apogee have dreamed of working with Yamaoka-san, so when the opportunity came up for him to become involved with our first survival horror title, we jumped at the chance,” said Jeron Moore, Apogee’s Executive Producer. “Yamaoka-san absolutely understood the assignment. “Catharsis” perfectly captures the emotional journey of Total Chaos’ protagonist. Players will hear Yamaoka-san’s theme woven throughout the game alongside haunting, oftentimes unnerving tracks composed by Jason Dagenet, William Braddell, Chipper Hammond, Tim Stoney, and Mathieu Hallouin, with the full song bookending the journey in the game credits.”
Originally conceived as an award-winning total conversion mod of DOOM II in 2018, Total Chaos has been significantly reimagined and expanded into a modern standalone experience, amplifying its chilling atmosphere and relentless tension for a new generation of players.
The story sees players assume the role of a Coast Guardsman who has washed up on the shores of Fort Oasis, a long-abandoned mining colony consumed by decay and an eerie, inescapable presence. A lone voice crackles through a walkie-talkie, beckoning him deeper into the island’s rotting ruins. But as hallucinations grow stronger and reality bends, the question lingers… is something watching, or is the horror all in his mind?
Total Chaos is currently slated for a Q4 2025 release on Steam. A demo is currently available.
