‘Midnight Horror Story’ – Marlon Wayans Remaking South Korean Game Show for U.S. Audiences

In addition to starring in this year’s football-themed horror movie HIM, Marlon Wayans will also return to the horror genre next year with Scary Movie 6, and Wayans will continue hanging around in the world of horror with “Midnight Horror Story,” Deadline reports.
Marlon Wayans is producing the American version of the same-titled South Korean game show alongside Rick Alvarez via their label Ugly Baby Productions, with Craig and Clara Plestis of Smart Dog Media (“The Masked Singer”) also on board the U.S. take on “Midnight Horror Story.”
Deadline reports, “The U.S. version will feature well-known actors who, in each episode, will deliver chilling yet comedic stories, brought to life through immersive, cinematic reenactments, according to the official logline. The set itself will surround performers in the sights and sounds of each tale, heightening the fear factor.”
“The goal is for each celebrity to use their acting prowess to tell the scariest story,” Deadline’s exclusive report continues this afternoon. “The show’s hidden mystic audience of spirits (a mix of live in-studio and virtual audience members) will illuminate a candle whenever they find a story truly frightening. The celebrity who earns the most candles will be crowned the winner. The new series will amplify the comedy elements as a key factor of the format.”
“With the success of Scary Movie and the A Haunted House franchise, Rick [Alvarez] and I have always had an affinity for the mash-up of horror and comedy. This project fits perfectly in our wheelhouse,” Marlon Wayans said in an official statement shared by Deadline.
The South Korean version of “Midnight Horror Story” premiered its fifth season this year.
