Drawing inspiration from the Little Nightmares franchise, developer WereBuff Studio has unveiled Kumarn: The Wandering Spirit, a “first-of-its-kind Thai horror journey” coming to PC via Steam, with an eventual release on consoles.

Blending Southeast Asian mythology with eerie environments to create a dynamic adventure, Kumarn: The Wandering Spirit is set in a twisted version of Thailand. The game follows the story of a lost spirit child named Kumarn, who is on a surreal journey to find his way to a new home. Kidnapped by dark forces and separated from his loyal zebra companion, Kumarn must explore twisted renditions of Thai landmarks and outwit terrifying spirits pulled from age-old myths — including Mae Nak, the Krasue, and Phi Ta Khon.

Players will journey through six chapters inspired by Thai temples, shrines, graveyards, and haunted villages. You’ll need to hide, think, sneak and run as you make your way through deadly encounters while solving environmental puzzles along the way. Luckily, you’re not alone on your quest, as you’ll have your aforementioned zebra spirit companion, Zeb, who will guide Kumarn and help him survive the dangers that lurk around every corner. Kumarn: The Wandering Spirit features minimalist storytelling, with the game’s atmospheric design and haunting visuals communicating the emotion and lore, without relying on heavy dialogue.

Those attending Gamescom this year will be able to catch a glimpse of Kumarn: The Wandering Spirit in action at the Thai Pavilion (Hall 3.2 B010 #8).
