‘Weapons’ – “2:17 AM” Crossover Launches in ‘Fortnite’

After the success of their tie-in event with Fortnite for Ryan Coogler‘s Sinners back in March, Warner Bros. is doing it again, this time with Zach Cregger’s upcoming Weapons. Reported by Variety, ahead of Cregger’s sophomore effort landing in theatres next month, creative agency and production studio Sawhorse (who worked on the Sinners: Survive the Night in Fortnite) created a “2:17 AM” event occurring at the designated time in the UTC time zone. And just like the showtimes for Weapons, 2:17 AM is the time in the film where
The event takes place across the four available Fortnite modes, where players will find in-game clues, creepy environments and time-based challenges to complete. According to Nic Hill, co-founder and head of interactive at Sawhorse, the event is a showcase of how studios like Warner Bros. “are innovating beyond traditional trailers.”
The results from Sawhorse’s previous efforts speak for themselves. Sinners ended up with the highest domestic opening for an original film in the past decade, and earned $366 million worldwide against a $90 million budget.
Josh Brolin (Avengers: Endgame), Julia Garner (Wolf Man), Alden Ehrenreich (Solo: A Star Wars Story), Austin Abrams (“The Walking Dead”), Cary Christopher (Mank), Benedict Wong (Doctor Strange), and Amy Madigan (Field of Dreams) star in the film, in which all but one child from the same class mysteriously vanish on the same night at exactly the same time. The community is left questioning who or what is behind their disappearance.
Weapons opens in theatres on August 8.
