A feature film adaptation of Decorum at the Deathbed by Bird Box author Josh Malerman is in the works.

Deadline reports that Jenna Mattison (The Sound) has been tapped to write the script based on the novella, which was released as an Audible Original in 2021.

Described as Body Heat meets Edgar Allan Poe‘s The Tell-Tale Heart, the psychological thriller is said to be a disturbing and terrifying tale unearthing the dark shadows of the mind and finding redemption in the most unexpected of places.

It follows a grieving widow that starts a twisted affair with the detective investigating the mutilated deer that keep appearing in the forest behind her house. But as the relationship deepens he begins to wonder if she’s truly a victim or a sociopathic killer.

The search for a director is underway, with Malerman and producing partner Ryan Lewis (Bird Box) set to produce for their Spin a Black Yarn.

This is the second Malerman adaptation announced in as many weeks, with Rob Savage (Host) set to direct Incidents Around the House starring Jessica Chastain.
