Liminal Horror Game ‘Dreamcore’ Expansion “Playrooms” Arrives June 17th [Teaser]

Those of you who dug Montraluz’s psychological liminal horror title Dreamcore will be in for a treat next month when the game receives a brand-new chapter in Playrooms on all platforms on June 17. The expansion will add “roughly 50% more content” to the game.

As a result of the expansion, the cost of Dreamcore will increase. However, anyone who buys Dreamcore prior to the launch of Playroom will receive the expansion and all subsequent chapters at no additional cost. Beyond Playrooms, two more Dreamcore chapters are planned to follow in the next year.

Playrooms adds an eerie rec room to the game, combining cloudy recollections of nurseries, play pens, gymnasiums, and preschools. It combines the jungle gyms, paintings, and play structures of one’s earliest years, rearranged into something quietly uncanny and utterly unsettling.

“Our long term plan for Dreamcore has been to expand its unsettling, hallucinatory spaces into a very of different types of horror, and ‘Playrooms’ is us exploring the infinitely imaginative mind of a child,” said Valentín Iribarren, Game Creator at Montraluz. “We found it really exciting to mix and match half forgotten shared memories of childhood into something woefully disquieting.”

Dreamcore is inspired by the enigmatic cottages from Level 94 of the Backrooms wiki, where a seemingly idyllic neighborhood takes on a disturbingly reality-breaking form as it twists, expands, and loops around in uncanny ways. Offering a “one-of-a-kind experience,” the game enables players to freely explore expansive, non-linear worlds for extended gameplay sessions. Each world features a distinctive puzzle, tasking players with discovering its secrets and finding the exit.

Dreamcore is currently available for PC via Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox. While Harrison admittedly wasn’t a fan of the game, one hopes that the additional content will improve the experience.
