‘From’ Actress Kaelen Ohm Gets Stuck in a Haunted Time-Loop in ‘The Miseries’

“From” actress Kaelen Ohm stars in The Miseries, a psychological time-loop horror film currently in production in Nova Scotia, Canada.
Stricken with shame resulting from the circumstances of her husband’s murder, Bree (Ohm) enters a cursed apartment that entraps and torments her. Terrified and all alone, Bree is driven to take her own life, but even dying isn’t an escape.
Now in another layer of the incessant haunting, Bree discovers other women who have met a similar end, all stuck in their individual loops and made to face their shame for what appears to be an eternity. Together they must unravel the terrifying mysteries keeping them hostage, so that they may finally ‘move on’ and prevent another tenant falling victim to the apartment.
Ashlea Wessel directs from a script by Sarah Gignac. Paul Sarossy (Chloe, The Wicker Man 2006) serves as director of photography.
“The Miseries is a fascinating project for me as a filmmaker and as a horror fan,” said Wessel. “This film plays with psychological horror conventions in a way that subverts and celebrates well trodden tropes, while pushing the boundaries of the genre through mind-bending, non-linear storytelling. Thematically, it’s an exploration of human guilt and trauma from a female perspective, investigating how our individual experiences are never just ours. In some way, they’re part of a larger shared experience, for better or for worse.”
The movie is produced by No Fear Films and Picture Plant with the participation of Telefilm Canada, with the assistance of the Government of Nova Scotia Film Incentive Fund, the Screen Nova Scotia Content Creator Fund, and the Canadian Film Tax Credit Program.
“This unique genre blended horror evokes a bone chilling discomfort as it builds on its own constructs to a crescendo that pulls at the heart strings as well as scares you out of your wits,” add Parsons and Greenlaw. “This film is sure to be a visual delight with cinematography by multi-award-winning indie superstar Paul Sarossy together with the visionary elegance of popular horror director Ashlea Wessel.”
