Julie Benz to Star as Down-on-Her-Luck Scream Queen in Meta Horror-Comedy ‘Horrified’

With memorable roles in “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “Angel,” “Dexter,” and Saw V, Julie Benz has earned the tile of scream queen — and now she’s playing one in Horrified.
Deadline reports that Benz will star alongside Busy Philipps (“Freaks and Geeks”), Ron Perlman (Hellboy), and Jim Rash (“Community”) in the meta horror-comedy.
The film sees a down-on-her-luck scream queen return to the horror convention circuit for fast cash, only to find the pig-masked killer from her old franchise weaponizing her cult legacy against her friends and fans, forcing her to confront past demons and fight for survival in a blood-soaked slasher showdown.
Due to shoot this summer, the film marks the feature debut of writer-director Michael Zara (“Major Crimes”). Adam Biddle (Crank) will serve as cinematographer.
“The idea for Horrified came to me over 12 years ago while I was attending a Midwest horror convention, so finally seeing it become a reality with a killer (pun intended) cast and producing team is truly thrilling,” said Zara.
Zara’s Ghost Bunni will produce alongside Randy Wayne and Talia Bella via Rebellium Films, in association with arts charity Art of Elysium, EB Studios, and producer Daniel Hall.
