Hulu has ordered up a pilot episode of a “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” reboot series, with Sarah Michelle Gellar reprising the role of Buffy alongside Ryan Kiera Armstrong (Firestarter) as a brand new vampire slayer. More casting news has been announced by Deadline today.

Faly Rakotohavana (Unprisoned), Ava Jean (Law & Order: SVU), Sarah Bock (Severance), Daniel Di Tomasso (CSI: Vegas) and Jack Cutmore-Scott (“Frasier”) have joined the cast of creator Chloé Zhao’s (Nomadland) “Buffy” reboot project as series regulars.

Deadline notes, “Armstrong plays the new slayer — an introverted high-school student named Nova — in the untitled Buffyverse project, which Gellar executive produces.

“Rakotohavana will play Hugo, a privileged, likable high-school student who is a geek. Jean will play Larkin, another student described as a chronic do-gooder. Bock will play Gracie, the ringleader for a group of church-going students. Di Tomasso will play Abe, Nova’s single father who is a photojournalist. Scott will play Mr. Burke, a popular high school teacher.”

From what we understand, the series will also feature legacy characters from the original ’90s series. The reboot aims to “find a balance between new and old characters.”

Nora and Lilla Zuckerman (“Poker Face”) wrote the pilot, with Chloé Zhao directing.

“Buffy the Vampire Slayer” ran for seven seasons between 1997 and 2003, becoming a pop culture icon in the process. It was followed by spinoff “Angel,” which ran from 1999 to 2004.
