Lovecraftian Psychological Horror Sim ‘Static Dread: The Submarine’ Announced [Trailer]

solarsuit.games are following up their Lovecraftian sim Static Dread: The Lighthouse released earlier this year with Static Dread: The Submarine, which was announced as part of Steam Scream IV Fest. Coming to Steam, the devteam is looking to get the game in players’ hands “as soon as possible,” with a closed playtest coming in a few months.
The Submarine is a new entry in the Static Dread universe, taking place in a strange near-future world where a catastrophic aurora has erased much of modern civilization’s achievements. The results have forced humanity to face unfamiliar threats and impossible choices. Deep beneath a northern sea in the submarine known as Ares, you and your crew fight isolation, failing systems, and something far older than any map. It’s up to you to guide the Ares through black water, piece together what the aurora awakened, and decide how much you and your crew are willing to sacrifice to see the next dawn.
New to the game is the sonar exploration mechanic, where active and passive scans reveal wrecks, trenches, and things that answer back. You’ll need to decode these messages to uncover the secrets buried on the seafloor.
And much like The Lighthouse, players will be performing their duties aboard the Ares in order to keep the sub and its crew functioning properly. That also means that if a crewmember dies, you’ll need to assume their duties as well as your own in order to keep going.
At the same time, your route, your priorities, and your acts under pressure determine how the story concludes, leading to one of many endings.
