Peter Sarsgaard Says Maggie Gyllenhaal’s ‘The Bride!’ Will Be “Controversial”

Peter Sarsgaard thinks The Bride!, the Bride of Frankenstein-inspired movie written and directed by his wife Maggie Gyllenhaal, could spark controversy.
“I’m going to say that it’s going to be controversial,” the actor told Deadline. “I mean, it’s very punk. It’s very radical in some ways, and the main characters in it are very imperfect. It’s also a love story, basically. It’s about the monster in all of us.”
Contrary to advance rumors, the film is not a musical, although Sarsgaard conceded that the film does include dance numbers.
Set in 1930s Chicago, Frankenstein asks Dr. Euphronius to help create a companion. They give life to a murdered woman as the Bride, sparking romance, police interest, and radical social change.
Sarsgaard appears in the film alongside Jessie Buckley, Christian Bale, Penélope Cruz, and Annette Bening.
The Bride! is due out on March 6, 2026 via Warner Bros.
