‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ Teases The Fisherman Ahead of Trailer Reveal Tomorrow

The Fisherman is back and more vicious than ever in I Know What You Did Last Summer. Sony Pictures teased the slasher villain in action today, with the announcement that the first trailer arrives tomorrow.
The Fisherman slashes back into theaters on July 18, 2025.
In this summer’s legacy sequel, “When five friends inadvertently cause a deadly car accident, they cover up their involvement and make a pact to keep it a secret rather than face the consequences. A year later, their past comes back to haunt them and they’re forced to confront a horrifying truth: someone knows what they did last summer…and is hell-bent on revenge. As one by one the friends are stalked by a killer, they discover this has happened before, and they turn to two survivors of the legendary Southport Massacre of 1997 for help.”
Director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Do Revenge) co-wrote the script with Sam Lansky, based on an earlier draft by Leah McKendrick (M.F.A.).
Chase Sui Wonders (Bodies Bodies Bodies), Madelyn Cline (“Outer Banks”), Sarah Pidgeon (“The Wilds”), Jonah Hauer-King (The Little Mermaid), and Tyriq Withers (Him) lead the new cast.
Jennifer Love Hewitt is back as Julie James and Freddie Prinze Jr. is back as Ray Bronson in the legacy sequel. Prinze Jr. previously teased that Robinson “just took such good care of Love’s character, Julie James, and my character, Ray Bronson. They’re not the leads of the movie by any stretch of the imagination.”
Robinson also delivered a rather intriguing tease when promising a more ruthless slasher villain this round. “When Sony came to me and asked if I would be interested in taking on this IP, I said I would love to do this, but there are two things I would need you to let me do if we’re going to make this sequel together. They agreed to both. You’ll just have to see what those things are on July 18.”
Jim Gillespie directed the 1997 original I Know What You Did Last Summer, which was written by Kevin Williamson (Scream) and based on Lois Duncan’s novel.
Look for the trailer to arrive tomorrow.
