Conjuring Strangers: The 5 Horror Movies You Don’t Want to Miss in September

The road to Halloween runs straight through September, which marks the official start of the greater Halloween Season. Fall 2025 is absolutely loaded with brand new horror movies – we’ve got a complete list of over 35 of them for you to look forward to! – and it all begins with a jam-packed September that brings a couple of our favorite franchises back to the big screen.
The month of September 2025 also welcomes the arrival of the latest Stephen King adaptation, as well as the new horror movie from Jordan Peele’s MonkeyPaw Productions.
Here are the 5 horror movies you don’t want to miss in September 2025.
THE CONJURING: LAST RITES – September 5
The ninth movie in the James Wan-created Conjuring Universe is a particularly important one, as it’s (allegedly) the final installment featuring Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga as Ed and Lorraine Warren. The Conjuring: Last Rites is based on the real-life Smurl haunting, and it promises a heartfelt farewell to the characters we’ve been following since back in 2013.
Meagan Navarro writes in her review for Bloody Disgusting, “Last Rites is suitably nightmarish where it counts, bringing memorable chills that linger and spilling more blood than usual in a Conjuring film. But it’s more affecting for the way it wears its heart on its sleeves. It’s a fitting, heartfelt end to one of horror’s biggest modern franchises.”
THE FETUS – September 9
Horror favorites Lauren LaVera (Terrifier 2 & 3) and Bill Moseley (The Devil’s Rejects) lead the cast of The Fetus, a new pregnancy-themed horror-comedy from director Joe Lam.
LaVera stars as Alyessa, whose unwanted pregnancy results in a fetus that craves blood. The film will be available on VOD outlets at home beginning Tuesday, September 9.
Moseley plays the father of LaVera’s character, which should be a treat for horror fans.
THE LONG WALK – September 12
Director Francis Lawrence (I Am Legend, Constantine, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire) is already earning rave reviews for The Long Walk, an adaptation of Stephen King’s harrowing tale that was adapted for the screen by writer JT Mollner (Strange Darling). Stephen King’s main piece of advice to Lawrence? Make sure you show teenagers being brutally dispatched.
That may sound like a pretty twisted piece of advice, but The Long Walk doesn’t work unless you’re feeling the pain. The story follows a 16-year old who takes part in an annual contest in which 100 teens must journey, nonstop and under strict rules, until only one is left alive.
Prepare for a bleak nightmare from Mollner, King and Lawrence.
HIM – September 19
While his own next movie is currently without a release date, Jordan Peele is back this month as producer of the MonkeyPaw Productions horror movie HIM, directed by Justin Tipping.
HIM uses football to convey its “greatness demands sacrifice” theme, with Tyriq Withers starring as a rising-star quarterback whose path to greatness takes him down a disturbing rabbit hole. Marlon Wayans co-stars as the mastermind behind the nightmare.
The trailers for HIM suggest a pretty straightforward horror story, but we’re thinking there’s probably more going on here than meets the eye. It’s important to note that Peele didn’t direct the film, but even Peele producing a horror movie is always an exciting prospect.
THE STRANGERS: CHAPTER 2 – September 26
Let’s be honest here for a minute. Director Renny Harlin’s The Strangers: Chapter 1 wasn’t exactly an exciting start to his new trilogy of films inspired by Bryan Bertino’s home invasion classic, which would probably explain why most horror fans aren’t all that excited about The Strangers: Chapter 2. The good news? The response to Chapter 1 seems to have inspired many changes to Chapter 2, which underwent reshoots based on the reviews of the first chapter.
“The first movie came out, and we got a lot of feedback from the fans and regular moviegoers,” Harlin revealed at Comic-Con. “It was about adding and enhancing the experience.”
Madelaine Petsch is back as survivor girl Maya in this month’s The Strangers: Chapter 2, whose harrowing encounter with the three masked maniacs is only just beginning.
Other new movies you don’t want to miss in September include Above the Knee (September 9), Somnium (September 9), Rabbit Trap (September 12), Traumatika (September 12), The Jester 2 (September 15), Night of the Reaper (September 19), and Chain Reactions (September 26).
