While answering fan-submitted questions from The Guardian, Alien director Ridley Scott revealed that he turned down a $20 million offer to helm Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines.

“I’m proud about this. I turned down a $20 million fee. See, I can’t be bought, dude,” he asserts. “Someone said, ‘Ask what Arnie gets.’ I thought, ‘I’ll try it out.’ I said, ‘I want what Arnie gets.’ When they said yes, I thought, ‘Fuck me.’ But I couldn’t do it. It’s not my thing.”

Scott continues, “It’s like doing a Bond movie. The essence of a Bond movie is fun and camp. Terminator is pure comic strip. I would try to make it real. That’s why they’ve never asked me to do a Bond movie, because I could fuck it up.”

Released in 2003, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines went on to be directed by Jonathan Mostow (Surrogates, U-571).

In the same interview, the filmmaker was asked if he would make a third Alien prequel following Prometheus and Alien: Covenant.

Scott’s response? “Another Alien prequel – yeah, if I get an idea, for sure.”

The Alien franchise is still going strong in Scott’s absence. Last year’s Alien: Romulus grossed $350.9 million worldwide and a sequel is in development, while the first season of “Alien: Earth” currently airing on FX and Hulu.
