Glitch Productions and Oni Press have launched a Kickstarter campaign for Murder Drones: The Official Graphic Novel, based on the Webby Awards-winning adult animated series.

We have an exclusive look at a variant cover that pays homage to John Carpenter‘s The Thing, illustrated by Jarrett Williams (Rick and Morty vs. The Universe) and colored by Michael Atiyeh (Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic).

Writer Wyatt Kennedy (Nights) and artist Jo Mi-Gyeong (Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance) have adapted all eight episodes of the genre-bending show into a 136-page graphic novel.

In the world of Murder Drones, a natural disaster in the far future has flash-frozen humanity’s remote mining exoplanet, Copper 9. Only now the “worker drones” – built by humanity and eventually outlived by them – have to rebuild society from the frozen ashes.

This endeavor complicated by the appearance of “disassembly drones,” vampiric robot counterparts hell-bent on wiping mechanical life from the planet and an unsettling virus known as the “Absolute Solver.”

Alessio Zonno (I Heart Skullcrusher) created the cover art for the hardcover edition, while Mi-Gyeong designed the Kickstarter-exclusive paperback edition.

In addition to The Thing cover below, additional horror homage variants include Carrie and A Nightmare on Elm Street. The Kickstarter also offers several other limited edition exclusives:

  • Foil variant covers for the series’ first issue
  • Deluxe slipcase edition, signed by writer Wyatt Kennedy featuring a double-sided, foil-stamped slipcase
  • “Fatale Error” signed slipcase edition featuring exclusive cover art by Austin Baechle (Nacelleverse);
  • “Dissembly Drone” set featuring a Murder Drones #1 metal variant printed on brushed aluminum, a trucker hat, an 18×24 giclee print, and exclusive cover art by Andy Duggan (Star Wars: Hyperspace Stories)
  • “Absolute Solver” set featuring a complete set of every Murder Drones comic cover, a silkscreened work jacket, a candle, an 8×10 black-and-white original character sketch by Brenda Hickey (My Little Pony) and exclusive cover art by Moss Lawton (Star Trek: Prodigy)
  • “High Temp” set, limited to just 25), featuring Murder Drones “Episode 1” on VHS, a Murder Drones #1 customized variant cover with the backer’s first name, a 1:1 lithographic print of am interior art comic page from the files of artist Jo Mi-Gyeong, and exclusive cover art by Andy Duggan (Star Wars: Hyperspace Stories)

Murder Drones: The Official Graphic Novel captures all the comedy and character beats of the animated series,” said Kennedy. “Jo Mi-Gyeong is a truly phenomenal artist and it’s a joy to see the story of Murder Drones captured like never before.”

Created by Liam Vickers, the “Murder Drones” pilot premiered on YouTube in 2021. The remaining seven episodes were released between 2022 to 2024. The entire series is now streaming worldwide on Prime Video.
