David Gordon Green (Halloween 2018, The Exorcist: Believer) has signed on to direct Supermax, Deadline reports.

The propulsive thriller follows two FBI agents investigating a murder perpetrated within the world’s most secure prison.

Mirmax won a bidding war for the high-concept spec script, written by David Weil & David J. Rosen (“Hunters,” “Invasion”), last May.

The studio plans to fast-track the production for a spring start, with casting just getting underway.

The Picture Company partners Alex Heineman & Andrew Rona (A Complete Unknown, The Commuter) will produce.

Weil and Rosen are set to executive produce alongside Miramax CEO Jonathan Glickman, President of Film Alexandra Loewy, and COO Thom Zadra. Senior VP Spencer Ela is overseeing, with Natalie Laine Williams (“Hunters”) as associate producer.

The project reunites Green with Rosen, who created Apple TV’s dark comedy thriller series “Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed,” which Green is directing and executive producing.
